Global warming is a natural phenomenon and has been taking place over years and years. Recently in last decade it has become threatening ad people are more aware about it. The reason is recently there has been a rise in the rate of global warming. It primarily is the effect of greenhouse effect.

Let us understand what greenhouse effect is all about. The main source of light and natural energy to earth is sun. Almost half of the sun’s energy in rays is absorbed by earth’s surface. Earth in return, radiates back this energy in form of infrared rays. Now, when this heat is absorbed by greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and gets trapped, it results in global warming.

It is the increase in the temperature of earth and its surface all across. The main contributor of carbon dioxide in atmosphere is power plants. These power plants burn fossil fuels and coal to generate power. Burning coal is the main contributor of carbon dioxide. With rise in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere the gas absorbs more and more heat around and thus increases the global warming.

The major threat from global warming is global climate change. Climate change can be life threatening also if people living in that area are not able to cope up with it. Glaciers around the globe are melting. Melting glaciers actually means rise in the sea level. If we think about it, then the rise in sea level in itself can pose a lot of threats to human kind. First and foremost, it can be a dangerous thing for all the tows and places near coastal areas. The life of people at such places can be in danger. Secondly, with rise in sea water level, there is threat to the ground level. When mixed with ground water, sea water can be a threat to the drinking water. Scarcity of drinking water in itself can result in lot of chaos.

With change in climate around the world, there will be more of natural calamities. Natural calamities like floods, droughts, cyclones, volcanoes etc. World will suffer a lot if global warming is not fought against today itself. We can also decrease the effect of its by controlling it. It can be done by a lot of things which we as individuals can start at home. Things like planting more and more trees around. Planting more trees will not just help in avoiding soil erosion. It will also help in releasing live saving gas i.e. oxygen. Apart from this, trees also help us in controlling the greenhouse effect by absorbing greenhouse gases.

However, if we look around we hardly find people planting trees. We can easily find people who want to cut trees and use them or use that land. We should also avoid using paper and go for electronic media. This will save trees as well.

Usage of plastic bags results in garbage and when this garbage is burnt, it releases more harmful gases in the atmosphere.

Of course, it will!

What is likely to occur if our global conditions should get warm enough to cause the seas to inundate the lands, possibly drowning out some of our species?

Predictably, this will be quite a major consequence of global warming, but only if it is the only condition that is alterable by this warming event during that time.

However, it is most certain that it will not be the only sustainability condition to be affected, as there are a myriad of other worldwide phenomena, which will also be subject to alterations of their specific conditions by any rise in global temperatures.

During its existence, this planet, (which to all intents and purposes seems quite capable of looking after itself), has been subjected to many episodes of change, and has survived. Therefore, it seems that no matter what we may attempt to change, the planet will try to keep its own identity stable by restructuring its own survival criteria. These courses of action may initiate some natural counter measures, which could have some adverse effects upon our own lives, like the imposing of very different conditions of sustainability and other negative restrictions upon our lifestyles that we may not like, but will have to endure as our planetary conditions warm up..

In an attempt to answer the question of, “What could occur if the Ice continues to melt at its present rate”?

Of course, the ice has to melt due to this global warming effect, but this does not necessarily mean that the sea levels around the continents will rise to reflect the amount of ice that has melted.

It will also mean that there will be a lot more water going into the ocean basins, which will be subjected to increased evaporation because of the extra heat over the land and ocean surfaces. This extra water vapor will be uplifted to the cloud layers until it is cooled by the atmospheric conditions into condensation, which will then be returned to the surface of the planet as rain, which helps to cool things down.

This method is just one of natures ways of combating any global warming of this planet.

Sounds easy, but do not be fooled by its simplicity, because when it rains, these rains will be of increased capacity and ferociousness, causing extremely severe storms, with massive flooding and accompanying land erosion.

This is exactly what is occurring now, and it is only in the early stages.

So apart from getting extremely Sun burnt, or occasionally severely flooded out, we may have a couple of pluses in store for us, like a new land mass at Antarctica to play with, or more places to go swimming in (Big, big puddles). Alternatively, there may not be any snow on the mountains, so skiing could be out too. Some of us will have to shift habitats, and some of us will die over these effects. However, that is life, win some, and lose a lot!

To try to put this into a reasonable perspective scenario, we should ask ourselves questions, like,

Is this warming caused solely by the inversion blanket of relevant greenhouse gases that are allegedly encompassing the earth as of the present time?

Is this warming caused because the Sun is now slightly closer to the earth than it was years ago, or has the earths orbit gradually moved it closer to the sun? Alternatively, has the sun increased its radiance of heat rays into space? Maybe its emitting more ultra violet rays etc, than it has usually done in the past. Has its nuclear reactor process started into its melt down phases?

However, it could take many Millenniums for these last stages to occur, but occur they will. Alternatively, this very process could be starting right now.

There are hundreds of other questions that could be asked, regarding the reasons for this global warming occurring at this period of our habitation of the planet earth.

Nevertheless, the main one is.

Are we causing it to happen? On the other hand, is it perfectly natural?

One answer to the first question above is yes, we humans are excessive polluters of the planets protection resources, which she has perfected fairly well, and has had in place for many millennia.

We also strip the lands of large areas of trees to satisfy our hunger for profits and productive land. These trees, which we cut down, or destroy, are one of the main stays in the fight against the polluting effects of the carbon dioxide greenhouse gases.

An answer to the second question is that the planet itself is also guilty of causing destructive havoc to its own creations. Its volcanic activity programs spew smoke and ash into the atmosphere, and raging fires destroy the precious greenery that traps and uses some of those greenhouse gases, to manufacture the sugars and various other necessities they rely on for their continued existences.

Other natural phenomena like earthquakes, floods, swarming locusts, etc. etc. perform similar destruction of the planets greenery too.

Whatever all the related reasons may be for this global warming occurring now, there will be restrictive and possibly dangerous consequences for us to bear with in the future. To avoid these stresses, this situation has to be rectified somehow, either by nature, or by our own concentrated efforts, in an attempt to control, or help the situation return to a more acceptable prognosis.

Get the actual lowdown on the global warming hoax! Is it scientific fact or a huge Armageddon hoax? If not a hoax, why is the world not doing something about it? If a hoax, who started it and why? [...]

Do you remember popular movies,”Water world” and” The Day after Tomorrow”? Both movies painted a terrifying image of the future, if global warming continued. Horrendous typhoons’, drowning of almost all coastal areas, rapid freezes and abrupt baffling changes in the weather were shown with amazing special effects in the movies. But if we’re not careful this scenario could easily turn into reality.

Global warming has been a popular topic of debate since the early 1970s and the battle is still raging. Although a large amount of research has been done on the topic, there are two diametrically opposite beliefs being propagated. It seems that no one has an exact idea of whether global warming actually exists or is it just a hoax by scientists for the purpose of research funding and jobs.

Let’s just take a brief look at both perspectives,

1. According to the scientists and environmentalists: Carbon dioxide helps to warm the earth and makes up just a small part of the atmospheric blanket. In the last 20 years, humans have pumped out increasing levels of CO 2, which is now acting like a nice wooly blanket coddling the earth. The result: a universal rise in temperature, which is slowly melting the ice reserves at the North and South poles. Pour all that melting water into oceans and you could drown coastal areas. The Greenland ice sheet has a capacity to raise global sea levels 23 Ft. enough to swallow up large parts of coastal Europe, Asia and almost every island.

2. According to the politicians and the fossil fuel industry: The “Great Global Warming Swindle” is a controversial documentary film by British television producer Martin Durkin, which argues against the scientific theory that human activity is the main cause of the green house effect. According to the producer Martin Durkin and a whole panel of eminent scientists , global warming is due to solar activity which is at an extremely high level. Cosmic rays and heat from the sun causes cloud formation which then results in higher temperatures. Since this solar activity cannot be controlled by humans there is no need to control fossil fuel emission or shift to environment-friendly solar or nuclear energy.

Although the firs theory places the blame squarely on human consumption of fossil fuels,CFCs and other CO 2 producing elements , the other theory completely absolves the humans and blames the sun entirely for all global warming effects. So whom do you believe?

The bottom line is:

Both theories agree that global warming does exist and it is damaging the earth. Irrespective of theory, its time for us to modify the only factors under our control, by curbing excessive CO 2 emission and saving the one and only planet we have for our children.

In part, the fact that these gases are being generated by so many and such common activities is proving to be a big challenge towards limiting the production of greenhouse gas. With growing population and growing development, this challenge is only going to get tougher. [...]

The earth and its environment are facing growing challenges every day. There are alarming trends which environmentalists have been pointing out – our wildlife has been slowly disappearing, wetlands and farmlands are in danger, growing consumerism is leading to uncontrollable waste and leading to massive air and water pollution.

There are thus a myriad of environmental issues, which affect all of us without exception today. Some have generated a lot of debate and a lot of heat on what could be the best approach to tackle them.

Climate Change in general and Global Warming in particular, has attracted the most attention and generated the most controversies than most other environmental issues.

Also called the greenhouse effect, global warming is the effect of gases gathered above the surface of the earth. These gases trap heat close to the surface of the earth thereby heating up the planet, almost like in a greenhouse and causing harm to the environment of the earth.

There are a number of factors that lead to global warming. One of the biggest factors is the problem of overpopulation and its side effects. The more the number of people, the more resources they use, the more waste they generate, and the more pollution they cause. All these produce huge amounts of greenhouse emissions and contribute significantly to global warming.

Finding a solution to global warming can also be tricky because the kind of products and kind of human activities that can generate greenhouse gases that cause global warming are huge in number. Driving to work means gas emissions from the car we drive, turning on the lights requires energy to be supplied from a power plant that will produce these toxic emissions, and even using a simple refrigerator will cause gas emissions. As you can imagine, there are countless such, otherwise normal day-to-day activities that can lead to greenhouse gas emissions. Further, growing industrialization and globalization has meant tremendous increase in the levels of gases surrounding the Earth, with developed countries producing almost 75% of all the greenhouse gases.

In part, the fact that these gases are being generated by so many and such common activities is proving to be a big challenge towards limiting the production of greenhouse gas. With growing population and growing development, this challenge is only going to get tougher.

The consequences of global warming can be very significant – there is already proof that the temperature of the earth has gone up by a few degrees over the last few decades. If the earth heats up sufficiently, some portion of the icecaps would melt and sea levels would rise. This could be quite disastrous in some places with entire islands being wiped out and millions displaced. There would be regular flooding along coastlines meaning more displacement of people and destruction of croplands.

The causes of global warming is a serious issue in the world today and being aware of this causes is crucial. We have heard Al Gore talk about it as well as plenty of others, but there are still so many people out there who are just not sure what global warming is all about. People are not sure what all the fuss is about. It is important to be aware of environmental issues in the world today.

There are actually several known causes of global warming and only by acknowledging the causes can anything positive actually get done about it.

Causes

Although there are different causes that are contributing to global warming, more than anything it has to do with humans and what we as a nation are doing to the earth and what sort of an effect it is having. Greenhouse gases are thought to be the number one cause. These can occur naturally but they are also the result of many human processes including fuel consumption.

By driving cars for instance, greenhouse gases are emitted and when you stop to consider how many millions of people are driving around each day, it is easy to see why this would be such a problem. This is certainly one of the most major causes and one that is therefore crucial to pay attention to.

Aviation is considered as being another of the main causes of global warming. People are constantly traveling around the world for personal and professional reasons and it is costing us because it is having a negative effect on the world that we live in.

People really need to start paying more attention to what they are doing and realize that there are very simple steps that can be taken in order to have a more positive impact on the earth and take care of it. Global warming is just one of many environmental issues that we are dealing with right now but there are many others as well. At least by being aware of this causes, we are able to move forward and do what we can in order to protect the environment. Riding a bicycle or walking when possible for instance, can do a lot and if everyone were to cut down on consumption of cars and airplanes, it would help dramatically with global warming.

Over the last hundred years or so, many significant changes in the climate have been recorded, which shows a trend of rising global mean temperature, i. e. global warming, rising sea levels, Arctic shrinkage, Arctic methane release, emission of global carbon from permafrost areas, and Arctic methane release in coastal residues. Global warming is dangerous for our environment and our lives also. Global average temperature is expected to rise over this century, resulting in unpredictable extreme weather changes. Some of the substantial effects of climate change are irretrievable at continental and global scales.

It is estimated that the sea level will rise 18 to 59 cm (7.1 to 23.2 inches) by the end of the 21st century. This estimation is done without considering the probable additions by the melting of ice sheets. Even a global warming of 1-4 degree C (comparative to 1990-2000) can cause a partial deglaciation of the Greenland ice sheet and the West Antarctic ice sheet that would raise the sea level by 4-6 m or more. Meridional Overturning Circulation is expected to slow down in this century, whereas the temperature in the Atlantic and Europe will perhaps still be higher because of global warming. Some regions will be drowned forever if the sea level rises a little more.

Global warming may affect the human system very badly in many ways, but the impacts may vary from region to region. Some areas may be benefitted while the others may be badly affected. But if the temperature rises more than 2-3 degree C, the benefits will be overshadowed by the losses. Low-latitude and less-developed regions are prone to more sufferings. Though the human system has the potential to adapt to climate changes, nobody can surely predict the extent and capability of adaptation, and at what cost. Diversity of ecology would be reduced and many species will extinct forever. Biological and geophysical systems have less potential for adaptability in comparison with human systems. Consequences of global warming are alarming and must be tackled timely.

The fight against global warming is a full-scale war, with two strong armies poised for battle on either side. There are minor skirmishes and engagements, attacks and counter-attacks, strategies and counter-strategies, deceptions, victories and defeats. But above all, there is the fog of war – a cloud of disinformation that helps both the armies.

On one side, there is a growing number of scientists, engineers and climatologists. They are supported by some media, many celebrities, some politicians, laypersons and, surprisingly, quite a few civil servants. The latest and most powerful recruit is none other than the new US president, Barrack Obama.

Opposing them are the oil producers, automakers, processing industries, and other big businesses that want to preserve the status quo for as long as they can, to maintain their profitability. For simplicity, let us call this group the global warmers. They have the money, power and some political influence. But right now, the global warmers are on the run, facing a major onslaught from the environmental groups, and their tactics are getting increasingly defensive.

Their first line of defence is to deny the very fact of global warming. Generously funded “think tanks” produce reports that question the very accuracy of the statistical data that supports the notion of global warming. However, this position is getting less defensible as signs of global warming are now unmistakable- the break-up of the polar ice caps, the melting of glaciers and the drying up of lakes and rivers throughout the world.

The second line of defence is to deny that human beings are responsible for global warming. This again is done in reports that question the science behind the climate change models. They point out that different computer models produce different results and there is no absolute proof that human activity causes global warming. But this argument, too, is wearing thin, as more people realize that environmental pollution cannot possibly be good for the planet – it will definitely have harmful effects, most probably in the form of global warming.

The next defence -indeed a very successful one – is to steal the thunder from the opposition, by using their terminology. This gives the appearance of action when there is none, or very little. Thus every business uses words like energy efficiency, or sustainability. Any new product or service that comes out is “green”. We have green power, green politics, green communities, and green meetings.

Yet another tactic is simple diversion- moving the focus away from the issues that matter to others that have a lesser impact. Most of the environmental damage today is caused by air and water pollution from industrial sources, industrial wastes, emissions from commercial vehicles, burning of fossil fuels, depletion of natural resources, and energy consumption in large buildings. But public attention is, instead, directed towards voluntary energy savings, mostly at the individual level. We are encouraged to re-cycle more, use energy efficient light bulbs, use renewable energy, and generally reduce our environmental footprint. All these things are important but it is doubtful how much impact they will have in the absence of any real enforcement. Much more needs to be done — tightening up of regulations, more commuter trains, less buses, and reduced dependence on fossil fuels. In addition, we need stronger incentive programs to induce people to make better environmental choices.

In the long run, the global warmers cannot prevail, because the consequences would be far too disastrous. But we need action right now, before climate change becomes irreversible.

Global climate is changing due to various reasons. As a result, our earth is becoming warmer affecting our lives adversely. Though, climate change has some benefits also, its negative health effects overshadow the benefits. According to a study by UCL academics in 2009, climate change and global warming is the biggest threat to human health in the 21st century. Number of diseases and deaths has increased due to these changes. Higher air temperature may aggravate cardiovascular and respiratory problems. Many harmful toxins like ozone concentrate at ground level and pose a threat to people with asthma and other lung diseases.

Rising temperatures affect the death directly in two contrasting ways: higher temperature in winter decreases deaths from cold, while in summer, heat-related deaths increase. But this depends on the existing climate in a particular region. Secondly, global warming creates favorable conditions for vectors spreading contagious diseases like dengue fever, West Nile Virus, and Malaria. According to World Health Organization, many insect-borne diseases will increase in Britain and Europe due to global warming, because if the northern Europe gets hotter, many insects carrying dangerous diseases like encephalitis, Lyme disease, visceral leishmaniasis, will spread in. The spread of these diseases affects the whole world both economically and health wise, because a lot of money is required to eradicate or control them by vaccination, draining swamps and spraying insecticides, pesticides, etc.

Regarding children’s health, the American Academy of Pediatrics delivered the policy statement ‘Global Climate Change and Children’s Health’ in 2007, which says that children are more vulnerable compared with other age-groups, to the impacts of global warming. The main direct health impacts of climate change are injury and death from extreme weather conditions and natural calamities, increase in climate-sensitive contagious diseases, air-pollution related diseases, and more heat-related fatal diseases.

According to a UNICEF UK Report of 2008, global warming has already affected the quality of the world’s most exposed children’s lives and it has become harder to fulfill the UN Millennium Development Goals. There will not be sufficient clean water and food, especially in Africa and Asia, due to global warming. Natural calamities, violence and diseases will be more recurrent and powerful, making our lives and the future of this earth miserable. Therefore, to beware of these fatal consequences, each and everyone should contribute towards minimizing the global warming.

Global warming is supposed to increase the severity and frequency of tropical storms. But hurricane and typhoon activity is at a record low. Global warming is an imbalance of nature. Global warming is a huge risk. We surely are not just talking about retiring our winter coats in favor of lighter jackets. [...]

The story by the Global Warming proponents is that Global Warming is caused by the burning of fossil fuels in our cars and electric generators. If this is so why has our temperature been lower for the past decade and we are told this will go on for another few years at least.

Global Warming is a large and expensive joke being played on the American people by a few who expect to profit highly by pushing this agenda. Our US government is now preparing to spend trillions on a theory that has not been scientifically proven as of yet.

It is very comical that global Warming is supposed to cause a lot more summer storms as well as hurricane and typhoon activity. I am still waiting on the so called experts to show us and tell us why our hurricane and typhoon activities are at an all time record low?

Many others are waiting to hear how they explain this away. Global Warming is a big imbalance of our nature around us. The way many proponents talk about global warming, maybe we should retire our winter coats and just keep our light weight jackets. According to them we want be needing heavy winter coats.

Most of the greenhouse gases they are talking about are just a trace in the atmosphere. The methane, nitrous oxide, water vapor, and many other trace gases occur naturally in our atmosphere. Climate change is as likely to be as cooling as it is warming. Which side of this discussion are you on?

Absolutely nothing has been proven one way or the other. The thing that has been proven is that our government is about to put a minimum of a couple thousand dollars new taxes annually on each household in the United States in the name of Global Warming, this will be a giant fraud.

Many of our great scientists have been trying to advise politicians about finding an acceptable level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The new study suggests that to aim low is even more important.

Most of our scientists seem to believe that this second heating has been the product of burning fossil fuels. If so then why do some argue that we actually have had a change in the sun and its relation to earth?

It seems that the scientists are wrong on their beliefs, but at this time they are just less wrong than before. If you happen to check out an issue of Science Magazine, most of our scientists believe CO2 levels are going to rise another 30% during the next 30 or so years.

If you recall Scientists were also convinced at one point that the earth was flat. Can we say by this time that they were wrong about that?

It is a pretty well known fact that the atmospheric CO2 concentration increased by only 20 PPM over the 8000 years prior to the industrialization of earth.

Multi decade to centennial-scale variations were less than 10 PPM and most likely due to natural processes. However since 1750 to the present the co2 concentration has risen by nearly 100 PPM.

One thing for certain many are only in it for the big money, no other reason. Exaggerations are hundredfold, one thing is for sure Hawaii is not about to disappear under the waves.

There are so many other ways people can fight global warming on their own small scale and in their day to day lives. All it takes is a small idea to get the ball rolling into a large movement. [...]

There are multiple lists of tips on how to reduce global warming. Many of these tips are really common knowledge now and even before saving the planet was cool, some of these tips were presented as ways to save money. Tips such as weatherizing your home, insulating the hot water heater and taking a shower instead of a bath were all money saving tips before they were tips on fighting global warming.

There are so many other ways people can fight global warming on their own small scale and in their day to day lives. All it takes is a small idea to get the ball rolling into a large movement.

For instance, one very large concern is water bottles. Everybody knows those will sit in a landfill forever. There has been a movement recently for people to purchase a reusable bottle and refill their own water at home instead of continuing to purchase cases of bottled water.

Eating and buying food is another area where global warming can be fought. It is not often thought of as a place where this can be done but looking at it, one can see where it would be a viable place to do just that. Purchase food locally. Many big cities and even small towns have farmer’s markets where produce can be bought. These foods have not traveled across the country to wind up in the local large chain stores but are grown locally and brought to the market with much less fuel used to get it there. An added bonus is if the locally grown food is organic because that means the farmers are not using chemicals to grow the foods that wind up in our bodies, our water supply and in the ground.

Of any tip a person can use, the most important one is making your voice heard. Talk about global warming and what you are doing to fight it. Invite your friends, family and co-workers to join you in some small changes that can make a big impact. Let your lawmakers know that you want what is best for the planet and encourage them to fight with you by passing helpful legislation.

With new ways to fight global warming being discovered and used every day and making changes in your day to day life, there will be so many benefits to the planet as a whole. Encouraging others will further the cause and make the movement stronger.
