Go Green - Get Healthy!

In order to be able to meet the Challenges of Change we must also be cognisant of our own Well-being both mentally as well as physically.

Health and Well-being, so important for all of us, it is the only way we can enjoy all the efforts we are making in our lives as gettingoffgrider’s!

I, LauraRose, (the author of this blog, gettingoffgrid.com) am a woman that needs to get Fit, again. I used to walk for miles every day when I lived on the beach (Key Biscayne, Florida) and in the mountains (Bent Tree, Georgia). Intermittently I’ve practiced Yoga since my early 20’s.

Today, Monday, October 18, 2010, overweight, I am researching several experts on Health and Well-being, and coming up with LauraRose’s Get Fit Again Lifestyle Change, and to keep myself accountable I am going to blog about this portion of my gettingoffgrid experience.

Having heart disease in my family, I will be focusing on nutrition that is heart healthy, lactose intolerant and gluten free
Nutrition and for Exercise, Cardio power walks, complemented with soothing Yoga stretches.

I have been walking around my neighborhood in the mornings donning gloves and a small rake and picking up LITTER (so far 18 bags worth) I fill 2 grocery bags a day, gotten most of garbage up but am blessed with daily contributions. Picking up unsightly garbage is a nice thing to do for myself and neighbors and the path is challenging with large hills but it does not a power walk. One new commitment will be to pick up 2 bags of trash once a week and power walk the rest, and every week I will lengthen the distance.

Before the morning walk I am going to do 20 minutes of Yoga, see these 2 you tube videos? I will start my Yoga program with these and transition into more advanced as my body limbers back up.
I used to be able to easily kiss my knees!

Not going to step on a scale or publish any “before” pics, but I will commit to loosing 4 pant sizes.
In the next day or two, I will be sharing a month of meal choices and list of snacks and supplements.

Any tips, recipes, pointers and comments are welcome!
Thanks,
LauraRose
BTW, I am still trying to figure out how to make this work, WordPress style, please bear with me, I have lots of things to blog about here and need to figure out how to archive…I think:)

BTW, these two Yoga videos are great! First one very relaxing, easy to do and allows you to think about your relaxation, the second one is also great, the routine encompasses the best of the Yoga stretches, however a bit fast for my taste (perhaps to make it fit into a 10 minute clip) watch a few times, make notes on paper for beside your mat, or put you laptop there and pause after each posture and work the routine at your own pace, till the routine becomes a smooth streaming dance ….remembering to BREATHE deeply often…

So, Yoga (and powerwalking) is great, for mind and body but if there is Anger pent up inside you it will only “fight” the good feelings these exercizes can bring to you. Do your best to let the negative feelings go…away…forever

This next video maybe can help get you started in to true Peace of Mind.
