Your pets can go green just like you. Read to find some simple ways to transfer your green, healthy lifestyle to your pets. [...]

There are numerous ways to live green: you can eat healthier, reduce energy consumption, recycle waste and even save on water usage. But did you know that you can also transfer your green lifestyle to your beloved pets? Below are a few ways to help your pets live a healthier, greener lifestyle just like you do.

1.Consider pet massage therapy

Just as humans do, pets enjoy being massaged.

Massage therapy has been proven to speed up recovery and help tissues heal from damage or overuse.

Check your local area for groomers that also offer massage services.

2. Make sure your pet gets groomed on a regular basis

Regular grooming can contribute to longer, healthier lives for all of your pets.

Getting your pet groomed can make sure that the overlooked parts of your animal are given attention.

Like humans, pets enjoy being comfortable and clean.

The use of natural shampoos has many great benefits. They are mild, hypoallergenic, have no animal byproducts, include natural healing herbs, have no artificial dyes or scents, are environmentally friendly and don’t remove essential oils that are produced naturally by a dog’s skin.

3.Feed your pets natural or organic foods

A lot of people today are going organic, and now your pets can eat organic foods as well.

Many pet stores carry several brands of pet food. Choosing an organic or natural option can help your pet to be even healthier.

A few brands to mention are: Karma Organic, California Natural and Innova.

A recent poll released by CNN has found that 54% of adults feel that global warming can either be stopped or slowed down by government intervention. 27% of adults recognize climate change is occurring but feel that the government can not do anything about it. And a slim 17% of individuals feel that global warming is not even occurring at all.

Polls that are done on the issues like these are always suspect to wording. Any issue can be worded in such a way as to make a specific response far more favorable. That would be a bias based on the wording that can either be intentional or unintentional.

Politicians love changing the wording around over and over to help them deliver their views in a way that would be accepting of the majority of people. If voters say they are against climate change legislation if it causes an increase in their taxes, the global warming opponents will definitely bring that up. If voters overwhelmingly believe global warming will devastate their wealth and way of living, they will want something done about it.

Issues are to be presented in such a way as to make the politician look as though he is in the majority.

For example, in an ABC poll, 77% of adults were concerned that federal regulations to combat warming would be too expensive. Opponents will focus in on this. Proponents of warming would focus in on a Marist College poll that showed 66% of adults that felt global warming would be a major problem and an additional 20% feeling that it is a minor problem.

The debate will continue so long as adults are concerned about the cost and concerned about climate change in the same breath.

Some great resources for you would be to visit the global warming polls page and the consequences of climate change page.

These days I think we are all taking a second look at our choices and the way we are living our lives. It's not like we haven't thought about saving energy before or sorting and recycling our trash, but now with the economy in the dumper we are all looking for new options that we can implement in our lives to save money. [...]

Everywhere we turn there are signs that our society is switching gears in terms of the way that we are treating our planet. You cannot open a magazine, newspaper or turn on the TV without seeing or hearing the phrase “Going Green.” So what exactly does “Going Green” mean to us as everyday citizens and how can we start to practice this new lifestyle in our everyday lives?

My first suggestion would be to start slow. Start small with everyday things like sharing rides to work, walking or riding your bike to lower how much fuel you are consuming and lower your contribution to air pollution. Change the light bulbs in your home to the smaller fluorescent bulbs. Regular light bulbs can really increase your monthly bills and the newer ones will last a lot longer. This adds up to big savings for you over time.

Another approach is to do a little maintenance around the house. Start caulking any gaps around the doors and windows and seal up any opening. This will help keep out drafts that cost you money.

Another big tip is if you want to spend a little money – insulate, insulate, insulate! You will always make your money back on insulation. Having a well insulated home cuts down on those high energy cost in the wintertime. The more insulation, the less your furnace or heater will turn off and on costing you less.

One thing I hadn’t thought much about before was my appliances until my washer started to go crazy. If you have older appliances, they are probably eating your lunch in energy. It’s true! I couldn’t believe how much difference there was just in the ten years difference since I had bought my old one. You will actually save enough on your monthly bills over time to pay for a new energy efficient appliance. So if your spouse has been complaining about that old frig or washer, surprise them and replace it for them and save some money. (hint hint honey)

Of course, one of the most obvious “Going Green” changes that most of us have been exposed to since we were young is recycling. The bonus is that many vendors and manufacturers are making it easy for us. Watch for the recycling emblem when purchasing products. Buy more than one trash can so that you can separate out your paper, metal, glass and plastic.

These are all excellent ideas that you can utilize to start your “Going Green” lifestyle. Should you decide to pursue even bigger ideas’ there are many resources and a large amount of information available.

I started researching “Green Energy” and Home Alternate Energy as a way to save money on my electric bill. The result has been a driven need for more information and perhaps a way to indulge my passion to learn to market on the internet.

I also have a passion for my dogs Maddie and Rodeo and love to use my background in the pet industry to share information with you. Check out the following site for healthy dog food information.

Would you like to learn how you can get off of the grid with your own homemade power system? Many homes have already gone off of the grid after their owners installed renewable energy systems to run the house. Some examples of such systems include wind mills and solar panels. Some people have been able to use them to cover 50% of their house’s energy needs, while other luckier ones are able to fully cover all their electric bills.

1. Is It Really Possible to Get Off of the Grid with Renewable Energy Systems?

With an instructional guide and video website, I have been able to get my own renewable power system set up for less than $200 in total costs. Another option would be to purchase them at retail prices which are generally much higher due to the high markups and profits that companies need to make.

2. Download Step by Step Guides and Watch Tutorial Videos Online

The site that I have used provided me with step by step instructions with diagrams that show me exactly how to assemble the solar and wind powered systems. Every step are also demonstrated live in video tutorials which I felt useful because I have never build such systems myself before. These home-made power construction system guides are available in both physical and digital downloadable format.

3. What Types of Off the Grid Power Systems Can Be Built at Home?

The most effective and affordable ones would be wind turbines and solar panels. These 2 systems are capable of converting free natural power into electricity to run household appliances. A battery system can also be setup to store excessively produced energy that can be used when there is no more wind or sunlight available.

Going green and finding a renewable energy source isn't brain surgery. More and more people are making a difference in the United States and using solar or wind energy for their homes and businesses. [...]

Going green. You see it everywhere these days and you think little of it. You wave it by thinking it’s just someone trying to tell you to recycle more or to plant a tree. Living a green life doesn’t have to be complex or annoying. It can save the planet as well as your much needed power bill. Listening now? Well, good, because today we’re going to go over green energy.

Green energy is a renewable energy source, such as the sun, wind or water, to create electricity. You’ve probably seen those big windmill looking things out in fields somewhere or large areas covered in solar panels. These would be examples of green energy. Is it hard to have or extremely expensive? Well, that also depends on how clever you are. There’s lots of sites online that will tell you how to create solar panels and residential wind turbines or you can buy them, but this is a little pricey. Even the most expensive option will even out in a few years with constant use of your new renewable energy source. I know some wind turbines cost anywhere from $6,000-$22,000, but it can cut your electric bill by half or even more depending on how much wind your area gets.

Let’s take a close look at some of the renewable sources. How do they work?

Solar energy

what are solar panels?

Panels made up of lots of different solar cells that convert light to electricity. The more light a cell gets the higher amount of electricity that it produces.

So how exactly is the light turned to electricity?

Solar panels are made of a semiconductor like silicon and these are connected by a wire to a circuit. As light hits the panel it’s converted to electricity travels through the circuit.

Will solar panels still work on cloudy days?

Yes, but not nearly as well as sunny days.

In what area are solar panels most useful?

Because solar panels depend heavily on how much of the suns energy reaches it, solar energy is most reliable and effective in the southwestern part of the United States.

Wind energy

How do wind turbines work?

The wind turbine collects kinetic energy from the wind and converts it to electricity. Even though they may look like fans they work the complete opposite. Wind turns the panels which spins the shaft connecting to a generator and creates electricity.

Who should consider getting a residential wind turbine?

There’s two aspects to consider before jumping into something like this. 1) Make sure that the wind in your area is consistent and 2) turbines aren’t for small suburban homes and require you to have a few acres of land.

In some areas homes are fully fitted with both wind and solar power and live completely off the grid. Having a hybrid system like this can work to your advantage. When the sun isn’t up the wind can finish the job. More and more people across the United States are using some forms of renewable power and it’s starting to become more affordable.

Living green can be a part of everyone’s lives. Who knew saving the world could help you save money in the process? So before you wave it by next time someone talks about living green think of how many other ways you can live your life, saving money and having a clear conscious.

Throughout the history of our planet it has endured a constantly changing climate. It endured an ice age and has also experienced long periods of heat. But over the last two hundred years, give or take, the temperature of our planet has been steadily increasing. This change in the climate on earth is known as global warming, and global warming is the direct result of the industrial revolution.

Because of the industrial revolution, people are constantly burning fossil fuels such as oil and coal. But by burning these fuels dangerous greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO2) are then released into the earth’s atmosphere. These gases block heat rising from the earth from being able to escape into space. The same basic function that glass panels on greenhouses have, hence the name. Our burning of fossil fuels causes more than three quarters of all carbon dioxide emissions. Power plants and other stationary sources contribute more than half of that amount.

Along with increasing CO2 emissions, deforestation is on the increase as well. This is disastrous, because trees recycle CO2 and release oxygen back into the atmosphere. Because of the rise in deforestation levels the fossil fuels we burn are seriously jeopardizing our planet. We know that global warming is the cause of glaciers getting smaller and for the rise in sea levels. Plants and animals show clear and undeniable signs that they are affected in many different ways. Earth is experiencing longer seasons which results in rivers and lakes freezing later than usual and melting sooner. Without a doubt, global warming causes many changes and affects our planet in many ways but can it also cause a tsunami?

Nobody will ever forget the utter destruction, grief and loss left behind after the huge tsunami that hit parts of Asia on December 26th, 2004. Hundreds of thousands of people were killed, injured and traumatized. The areas it hit were left completely destroyed.

Generally speaking a tsunami is made up of a series of waves. More often than not the first one is the mildest. Prior to the arrival of the first wave, the shoreline recedes dramatically and often leaves the ocean floor exposed. They mostly occur where the water is shallow but they can also occur around coastal areas. In deep water a tsunami appears as a big wave and nothing more. In shallow water this is not the case. The wave can reach as high as one hundred metres, although, in all honesty, this is not at all common.

We know that tsunami’s can be caused by an earthquake, but this is not the only cause. They can also be caused through volcanic eruptions and landslides. Another cause is if a large amount of water is somehow displaced, such as when meteors happen to fall into large bodies of water. Tsunami’s are caused by events that can be, and are, affected by global warming, however global warming itself does not directly trigger the formation of a tsunami. Basically, it is an indirect cause.

One thing is certain, global warming is not a myth as some suggest. The planet is displaying clear signs that we dare not ignore.

United States households alone are responsible for 21% of the global warming pollution that occurs in the world. This is more than the entire global warming output of the United Kingdom. It is clear we are not doing a very good job at energy conservation. Yet energy-conscious families can reduce their emissions by two-thirds with some simple choices.

1. Turn Off Lights and Appliances

The easiest way to start conserving energy is to turn off lights, appliances, computers, televisions, and gadgets, when not in use. We are spoiled. We have such abundance that we can waste it. Most of us have gotten out of the simple habit of switching off a light when we leave the room. Our grandmothers and always turned off the lights and would be horrified if we didn’t. They did it for reasons of money but there was wisdom in their penny-pinching ways. We are blessed to have, for the most part; plentiful and cheap sources of energy which has led us to take it for granted and over-use it.

2. Adjust Your Thermostat

Next, consider adjusting your thermostat. Set your thermostat to 68 degrees during the day and turn it down to 55 degrees at night. For each degree you turn down your thermostat, you save up to 5% of your heating costs. Grandma would be proud-and the earth will thank you, too.

3. Replace Light Bulbs

One excellent way to create huge savings in energy and money is to replace your current light bulbs with Compact Florescent Bulbs or CFBs. A CFB is four times more energy efficient than an incandescent bulb, and it will provide the same lighting. If you choose to replace 3 of your frequently used light bulbs with CFBs, you can prevent 300 pounds of carbon dioxide from going into the air-and save $60 a year. That is a huge savings for such a small action. CFBs cost a bit more upfront, but they are extremely long lasting. All you have to do to realize how inefficient traditional light bulbs are is touch one. It’s hot, right? Therein lays the problem-they put out more heat than light. This is where CFBs come in. If your idea of a florescent light bulb is the old tubes that buzzed, never fear. The new CFBs are a much different thing completely. They now produce the same kind of warm light you love from incandescents, and they use much less electricity. This, in turn, means lower electric bills and less global warming pollution.

4. Purchase Green Power

Look into purchasing green power. Many local utility companies are providing this as an option for its customers. Currently, more than 50% or power companies in the United States offer green power as an option. If you live in an area where retail electricity is allowed, you can buy your green power from an alternative source. If you buy energy through a regulated utility, many of these companies offer green energy and have graduated rates to accommodate it. You’ll pay a premium for purchasing all green power. Then there is generally a middle of the road option which is a little cheaper and is a combination of green power and traditional power. Or you can stick with your basic bill. But now that you are aware of the perils of global warming, aren’t you willing to pay just a few pennies more a day to help prevent it?

5. Buy Offsets

Or, you can buy offsets. What this means is that you are paying someone to reduce or remove global warming pollution. If you want to buy 5 tons of carbon offset, the seller then guarantees that 5 fewer tons of carbon dioxide will go into the air. This is a great option for those who have already reduced their greenhouse emissions through, say, the tips in this report, but wish to do more. By buying offsets, you can get your impact down to zero, and that is a lovely number when dealing with global warming. Just think how much closer we’d be to solving the problem if everyone got their impact down to zero.

To recap, here the Energy Conservation Action Steps

Turn off appliances and lights

Adjust your thermostat

Close your drapes at night

Replace incandescent light bulbs with Compact Fluorescent Bulbs

Take the CFB pledge at Environmental Defense and email it to your friends.

Use natural daylight when possible

Purchase green power

Buy offsets

Any and all of those activities and others listed in this report will help. The only thing that won’t help is if you sit back again and do nothing. There are way too many people in this country and others who don’t know understand the parameters of the problem. Now that you do, it’s up to you to take action. Whether you are 20 or 80 our future and the future of our children and grandchildren depend on it.

Our planet is suffering a process of global warming due to the atmospheric pollution produced by the industry emission of gases. A great threat for the planet is global warming producing what is known as the greenhouse effect. By global warming we understand “The increase in earth temperature produced by the burning of fossil fuels and other industrial processes that lead to the accumulation of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere (water steam, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, ozone and CFC)”. Of all gases that produce the greenhouse effect, (carbon dioxide) CO2, is the main responsible and is produced by the combustion of fossil fuels (carbon, petroleum and natural gas) to obtain energy. Each year, more than 7000 millions of tons of carbon dioxide are sent to the atmosphere, 2/3 of which are from the combustion of fossil fuels, while the rest is produced by deforestation and combustion of wood. Since 1896 it is known that carbon dioxide helps to avoid that infrared radiation escape to space, and this makes that a relatively warm temperature is maintained in our planet (greenhouse effect).

Sometimes it is used the name of climate change, that designates any weather change or anthropogenic climate change, where the direct influence of human activity is implicated. Global warming and greenhouse effect are not synonymous. The greenhouse effect enhanced by pollution, can be, according to most theories, the cause of global warming observed since the middle of the twentieth century, when there was and end to the stage know as the little ice age.

And what can we do to avoid global warming?

Of all possible things the easiest are:

Walk or use a bike instead of a car.

Consume only what is necessary, you can reduce in an important way the impact to the productive chain to the environment.

Recycle garbage

Reuse all we can, such as clothes, books, toys, etc.

Reduce consume of electric energy.

Regulate to comfortable temperature in winter and summer, for heating and air conditioners.

Need Some Help With Your DIY Home Solar Power Project?

Get On the Right Foot For Your Solar Heating!

Here is some system information for you. There are two home solar power systems which could be installed for your DIY solar heating project. These are (1) where solar collectors, which are special panels that are placed on your roof or walls, capture the sun’s radiation and are then used to produce heat. The heat derived from this system is transferred throughout the house by the use of water and other fluids or air systems(2) the second system is the solar cell or Photovoltaic system. This is a system where the PV or solar cells capture the radiation from the sun by a semiconductor. The semiconductor has electrons break loose and this creates an electrical current. It is this electrical current that provides the power through your home wiring. The Photovoltaic (PV) system will be the focus of this article.

Am I Staying On the Grid or Getting Off?

This is you first big decision. The safest one and probably best when first starting out is to stay on grid with the potential to go off grid someday. If you get off grid completely you are going to need a lot more additional equipment including a generator or battery system to provide the energy for days that are cloudy or rainy. Batteries can be costly and usually have a life expectancy of from 2 years up to 5 years. But if you do decide to remain on the grid you will have to communicate with your utility company to accommodate your power supply with their energy requirements. More than likely you are going to need their special equipment for precautionary reasons.

Permitting Before You Begin

A DIY home solar power project can be exciting but you got to protect yourself from trouble. Contact your city or municipality for permit requirements. Also discuss their laws regarding the need to use a licensed electrician. Be ready to tell them exactly what you plan to do. The last thing you want is to have some official make you dismantle all your hard work after you complete it.

Building Photovoltaic Solar Panels

Now your permitting is done and you are ready to install your PV system. Then now is the time to talk about PV cells. To install PV cells is not that difficult but if you purchase them pre built that is going to be costly. So how can you save on the expense of your photovoltaic solar panels? construct them yourself! This is a certain method to increase the return on your investment and reduce the cost of the solar panels. And you can definitely do this for a great DIY home solar power undertaking. There are numerous guide instruction manuals that provide step by step instructions on where to find solar cells, how to properly construct the PV panel, how to hook up multiple solar panels, how to set up a battery storage system for being off grid and to how to create and run your household energy. They also provide you with a blueprint plan for the basic solar system layout. The costs of these types of guide books are minimal when you consider the potential energy cost saving for you.

Is Solar Power Feasible For You?

You really should place this question up front in your mind before anything else. It does depend where you reside and what your energy needs are. Solar power could end up not being a wise choice. If you live in an area with constant days of rain or clouds during the year it just might not be feasible. If you have about 8 months of sunshine throughout the year then a DIY home solar power project could definitely be a wise choice. So do your planning upfront to avoid wasting time and money. Hopefully solar power will be a great alternative for you because the rewards are definitely there both now and in the future.

I am a true do it yourself enthusiast and practitioner. I have always believed there is no greater personal satisfaction than being able to start a DIY project and then complete it to the finish. DIY Home Solar Power

Getting ready to hit the trails? Wanting to do some camping this summer? Outfit yourself with eco-friendly clothing that’s made from natural, renewable fibers that are less harmful to the planet. These textiles may also to help reduce odor and keep you cooler than conventional outdoor clothing options.

Cotton is the most pesticide-intensive crop in the world. In fact, by weight a cotton T-shirt is 73 percent cotton and 27 percent chemicals and chemical residues! These pesticides flow into our waterways and wreak havoc on water ecosystems. They can create dead zones, which are areas in which nothing can grow, choking out all life. Growing cotton also requires heavy infusions of water-about 400 gallons per cotton T-shirt.

Synthetic fibers derived from petroleum byproducts (such as GORE-TEX, polyester, and lycra) are also unsustainable and non-renewable, given what they’re made from. They are also not biodegradable.

So, whether you’re in the market for a new T-shirt, looking for some hiking shorts, or in need of a good hat to protect you from the sun, there are greener alternatives. Here are some of the options available to outdoor enthusiasts:

Bamboo is a relatively new kid on the textile block. A very large grass, bamboo can grow up to 30 inches in a single day, making it a “rapidly renewable” fiber and very sustainable. It doesn’t require pesticide support, doesn’t need to be irrigated, and is virtually infinitely renewable. Plus, it helps to shore soil against erosion, retains water, and creates habitat for other wildlife and plant species. It is also really soft and has an internal “bamboo kun” which helps to control odor-creating bacterial and lower moisture levels, making it a great fiber for active people.

Hemp, used for decades by hippies and earth-conscious communities, is a great choice for many reasons. It produces more fiber per acre than cotton, requires little chemical support from pesticides, insecticides, and herbicides, and is natural like cotton. Hemp crops also help to boost the soil’s nutritional value and foster microbial life. It does, however, require a lot of water like cotton.

Organic cotton should be chemical-free, although it doesn’t solve the water consumption issue. Just be sure your organic clothing is from a reputable company that reports on how their clothing was made.

Soy, developed from the byproducts of the tofu, soybean oil, and soy milk industries (recycling!), soy fiber is another totally natural product. It has been called the vegetable cashmere because of its incredible softness, and it retains heat well and is easy to care for.

Wool is completely renewable and a great choice if you’re going to colder regions. You will, however, want to look for organic wool to ensure that the animals were treated humanely (although this is not guaranteed).

In the landscape of green living choices, opting out of conventionally-grown cotton is one important step to take. Although cotton is a natural fiber, growing cotton is far from green.

Get geared up with this summer with sustainable clothing, and have a good time enjoying nature.
