More and more people are now realising the need to have an eco friendly home. With natural resources under threat there is now an increased awareness of the power we all hold as individuals to help do our bit for the Earth.

Each small step makes a difference when it comes to eco living, so here are a few ways you can get started living an eco friendly home life:

1) Water

Saving water is a great way to go green, and it often doesn’t take as much effort as you might think. You can place a brick in your toilet system to reduce the water used up with each flush, or you can start collecting rain water in a water butt outside your home. You can use this water for watering your garden or, if you filter it, you can even use it for other purposes within the home.

2) Waste

When you become more eco aware you’ll start to realise that you don’t have nearly as much waste as you thought. Much of it can be recycled and reused, saving it from the landfill and saving you from buying new things. Did you know that many of the things we throw out in the garbage can emit dangerous gases when left in a landfill? Help avoid this by recycling.

3) Recycling Options

If you have organic waste then make sure to keep a compost heap in your garden. Collect all materials including paper, glass and plastic to be recycled through your local resources. You can even start reusing materials such as paper as scrap paper for children to colour or make crafts from.

4) What You Wear

An eco friendly home also means thinking about the materials you use in the clothes you wear! You can start recycling your old clothes by donating your clothes to charity or making them into something new. Start buying second hand and you’ll also be helping to save the world from harmful chemicals that are released every time new clothes are made.

5) Energy Options

This might be the hardest way of being more green, but it will pay off in the long run. Many houses are now employing alternative energy sources such as solar energy or wind powered generators. Start researching into whether this is an option for you.

These are just a few ideas when it comes to building an eco friendly home. The more you learn the easier you will find these changes. And the great news is you will always know you’ve been doing your part to help protect the Earth.

Taking small steps towards green living and eco friendly fashion can make a huge difference to the environment. Learning about recycled fashion is one of the easiest ways to start saving the environment.
